Inspired to make a change with Channel 4

The Brief:

“Raise the bar” to deliver a virtual event the Creative Diversity and Events teams could be proud of while in the capacity of Marketing and Events Producer at Channel 4.

Channel 4 had set the foundations for the event in 2021 and was looking to build on this for 2022’s addition. With a strong programme in the making unite joined the team to project manage the event both internally and externally and increase and drive registrations from across the British TV industry.

Focusing the lens on inclusion and diversity and forensically examining how the industry is performing across Channel 4’s 40-year history, attendees joined 14 virtual sessions to hear from decision-makers, on and off-screen talent, inspiring voices, and game changers from across the industry.

Our Solution:

We worked closely with Channel 4 to understand their challenges from year one and put a clear project plan in place to determine how we would go about increasing not only the quality of what the audience saw but also how the process was managed internally.

Integrating seamlessly with the team we worked in-house to develop the event visuals, marketing emails, and promotional pieces plus all the on the day assets. The Web Streaming and Webcasting was done via specialists Groovy Gecko who we worked alongside to film any pre-recorded content.

Highlights:

  • The website - it really felt like we’d upped the game from the previous year and we worked internally to put a Chanel 4 URL in place which took a lot of time and testing but will be in place for future years.

  • The numbers - we increased the number of registrations from the previous year by 41%. An increase the team was delighted with as we drove a lot of new registrations through social media, press, and a homepage takeover on Broadcast.

  • The content  - We’re particularly proud of the content that was produced at this event, it felt like we were having critical conversations within the industry that will be used to shape the future of Broadcasting.

Feedback:
“Well done team on delivering yet another magnificent Inclusion Festival.  I really appreciate all the hard work over the past few months which resulted in such an inspiring and polished day.”

- Alex Mahon, Chief Executive, Channel 4

”Just wanted to say a huge thank you - this wouldn’t have happened without you!”

- Neila Butt, Creative Diversity Lead, Channel 4

Our takeaway:

This was a very full-on project (that we loved every minute of!) and there were a lot of moving parts that had to align during a very small window. From getting the speakers in place at the right time to ensuring all of the content was captioned, transcribed, and signed live at the event this project taught us to get our ducks in a row early doors and have a robust plan (and backup plan!) that everyone can align with.
