News Years Revolution: Our 7 Predicted Recruitment Trends for 2023

As another year ends and a new year begins we’ve spent some time reviewing the predicted recruitment trends for 2023 and how they will impact you, your employees and those yet to join you.

As we were catapulted into a new normal when the pandemic broke remote working quickly had to become the norm. Employers that may never have previously offered this way of working had to rapidly adapt and as productivity continued at home, teams were able to become as cohesive with all of the technology available and the work life balance on the whole was far easier to achieve. Going into 2023 this will continue to be way up there with the core benefits of a job and employers that still haven’t adapted to this way of working will need to review their offering to attract the best people.

What other trends can we expect to see?

1. Strategic recruitment: We will see organisations of all sizes looking at a far more strategic approach to their recruitment processes. Talent Acquisition (longer term pipeline) vs Recruitment (immediate need) are both equally important and you may ask how do we find people for jobs we don’t even know we need to fill yet? The passive candidate should be your new best friend.. A huge network of potential candidates is available on LinkedIn, your organisations socials and through employee referrals. You can hand pick people that will suit your organisation and the skills needed for your roles that fit into your longer term growth plans. A savvy employer is no longer waiting for the vacancy to arise before they create a pipeline.

2. Speed will be of the essence: More and more employers are automating already and this is set to grow. With technology available to accept applications across various platforms and bring them into one place and even help with shortlisting to to filter all the key skills and experience required, it’s saving a recruiter a great deal of time, thus allowing them more time to focus on longer term talent attraction.

3. Diversity and inclusion is something Business leaders globally accept fuels innovation, creativity, and higher profitability. Many clients are increasingly investing more in diversity and inclusion efforts. So, recruitment agencies will have to try and deploy innovative candidate evaluation tools designed to eliminate bias in recruiting and hiring.

4. Employer branding will be key: This is extremely important, and it will only become more so. It’s vital that you position yourself as a company that cares.  Well-being and development are king! Even if you have a very small team, in 2023 it has to become a priority.

5. Data driven results: The use of data in recruiting is in no way a new concept. For a long time, recruiters have used data to help make decisions. But, what’s evolving is the use of advanced technology to make hiring decisions more precise. This has led to a change in focus from grades or experience to the candidate’s overall personality.

6. Tactical metrics like time to hire, candidates per hire, or offer acceptance rate will still be important to track your recruiters’ immediate actions. However, future recruiting will revolve more around strategic metrics that measure the business outcomes of the team’s efforts, not just the actions they take. Developing a client’s talent strategy will be just as important as executing it.

7. Gen Zers are set to enter the workforce in junior-level roles. The major drift they will bring into the recruitment business is – speed, they will expect everything to be virtual and fast-paced.

Outdated recruitment methods will be a major turn-off for them. So, recruitment and staffing agencies will have to gear up accordingly. Recruitment Automation, mobile-optimized application processes, and candidate engagement at each and every step of the hiring stage will become a necessity.

While recruiting businesses will face plenty of uncertainty in 2023, these trends will help  to better capitalize on the opportunities presented.  By focusing on proactive engagement, advanced screening, partnering with flexible workplaces, D&I and data-centric recruiting, companies are working hard to gain and retain a competent workforce in the face of a general talent shortage.

And if that all sounds like too much, why not call in the experts (hint hint.. us!) Whatever your recruitment plans look like in 2023, good luck!
