What made you decide to work in marketing?
The diversity - as a digital designer by education, the draw (pun intended) of a creative career could have gone in many directions. The nerd in me saw the power of big data, AI and the culmination of all my skills landed in marketing.
Before you joined us, what were you doing and what were you most excited about by joining us?
Like many during the pandemic, my career shifted directions unexpectedly. I was working in analytics and market research for a few years, and the pandemic presented an opportunity to get back into my real passion - business growth through creative direction. After freelancing with a few start ups, another ambitious business came into view. unite came into view and I've not looked back!
What have you enjoyed the most about working for unite so far?
New projects! Who doesn't love the rush of a new challenge, meeting new people and getting stuck in to something you can grow. As an agency, we're always asked to jump onto new ideas and progress projects for our clients, and when you enjoy the work, you never have to work a day in your life (said Einstein... I think)
What do you love the most about marketing?
In a world full of people who claim to know it all, marketing humbles even the most experienced and talented of practioners. Our industry changes every day, and we need to keep on our toes to keep the momentum going. There is always something new to learn, and (in my opinion) there is no such thing as an expert in marketing anymore. Specialists, yes - but I'm not a fan of relying on a single channel... sorry Twitter.
Do you have any tips for anyone looking to go into marketing?
Find what you enjoy, and go from there! Many people will tell you to avoid social media, "it's over saturated... that's not a real job!...". Some will say that marketing is sales for people who can't sell. In reality, marketing is something we all do everyday. Presenting yourself and your ideas to world on a platform which suits your audience. Once you find your niche, start small and grow by trying new things.
Where do you hope to see yourself in a years time?
Somewhere in cyberspace. Maybe the Metaverse! Digital marketing is such a progressive and powerful discipline, it's impossible to say where we will be in 5 years, let alone 5 months... What I do know is that marketing will remain, no matter what ChatGTP users might tell you, and we will still be here to help.
