How to increase Data Capture at Events
When you’re at a live event you’re going to want to capitalise on the captive audience. It’s the perfect opportunity to engage with people in person and showcase your brand, your services, and your dazzling personality.
But how do you get people to sign the metaphorical dotted line and agree to sign up for your goods and services? (Otherwise known as your mailing list…) 🤔
People are understandably hesitant when it comes to giving away their data, but there are a few things you can do to make the process a little easier! ⬇️
Give them an incentive 💰
Does your mailing list get early bird access to events? Are you sharing exclusive content with a select audience? Shout about your amazing content so people don’t want to miss out!
Keep it simple! 📝
You really only need an email address and first name nowadays. Stick to one or two data fields and permission tick boxes.
Time and place ⌚️
Think about when and where you’re collecting data. Lunchtime and loos are major no-no’s at events. Same goes for the end of the day, when people are tired, hungry, and want to head home. Approach people between speakers, when there’s a natural lull and people are more prepared to chat.
Be your brand 🗣️
How your brand is represented in real life will hugely affect your reputation. Don’t just data chase - actually talk to people, show a genuine interest in them and wax lyrical about your brilliant brand. Enthusiasm is infectious!
Know your T&Cs 📑
We know it’s boring, but with lots of rules around GDPR it’s super important to know your stuff. Don’t confuse your op out’s with your opt in’s, and be prepared to answer tricky questions from data pros!
At unite Marketing & Events we know what’s what when it comes to events, marketing and data. If you need some advice about improving your data capture - or making the most of what you’ve already got - we’d love to help.
