There’s no point in collecting new data to pile on top of messy, confused and outdated data. It’s time to take action and sort out what you’ve got before you do anything else. You’re going to need to put some time - and depending on the size of your database, some extra resource - into organising your contacts - from checking email addresses for obvious formatting errors to making sure you’ve got the right names for the right people.
👯 SEGMENT, SEGMENT, SEGMENT
Once you’ve created a contact list that’s in tip-top shape, it’s time to segment it. Because the quickest way to get an unsubscribe is to try to talk to someone about something they’re just not interested in. Make sure your data is tagged correctly, and tailor your content accordingly.

We love a bit of data analysis but appreciate it’s not for everyone. But you really need to spend some time investigating what’s working - and what isn’t - if you want get a grip on this stuff. Look into who’s opening your emails - are some sectors more engaged than others? Are you reaching people on the move (mobile) or desktop devices? Test subject lines - what do people want to read and what’s going straight to trash?
There’s no quick-fix for a database overhaul but the results will speak for themselves (we promise!) You’ll see more engagement, more event attendees, and more success.
