Managing Internal comms for corp events

If you’ve got a big event on the horizon, chances are you’re investing most of your resource into reaching people outside of the organisation.

But it’s important not to forget about the people on the inside too - whether they’re sitting opposite you in the office or working remotely on the other side of the world.

Here’s how to keep on top of your internal comms, to ensure everyone’s up to speed and on-board with your event.

1. DON’T ASSUME EVERYONE’S IN THE LOOP

When you’re working on a corporate event it can be easy to assume that it’s at the forefront of everyone else’s mind too. But if people aren’t directly involved there’s a good chance it’s dropped off their radar… Use your comms channels wisely. Talk about your event frequently but give people the background info they need too (who, what, where, when and why).

2. CHANNEL YOUR CREATIVITY

Don’t just rely on email updates (spoiler alert: people don’t always read them…) Use your comms channels to create videos, galleries and surveys, to help get people more engaged with the event.

3. OPEN UP THE CONVERSATION

Let people know who the key points of contact are for the event and invite people to ask questions or make suggestions. There might be someone with a brilliant idea who’s just waiting for an opportunity to talk!

4. TALK TO TEAMS DIRECTLY

If you’re relying on support from specific teams - before, during or after the event - talk to them directly. Set up a briefing meeting, and give them a chance to get to know you and ask questions.

5. GET A HELPING HAND

You might want to hand over some - or all - of your event to an external agency. At unite, we can pick up particular elements of your event, so if you need a steer on internal comms, we can help. From content creation to social media strategy, we can guarantee to engage your team and get them gee’d up for the big day!
