Office party checklist

The festive season is well and truly upon us! Decorations are up, Christmas films are on repeat and chocolates are most definitely getting scoffed. But there’s one date that might still be looming on your calendar: the work Christmas party.

Whether you love or loathe these annual shindigs, spare a thought for the people behind the scenes… because pulling off a corporate Christmas do is no easy feat. Whether you need to deliver something spectacular on a budget or have the means to go all-out, there are a few things to think about to ensure you deliver a Christmas cracker.

1.    PLAN EARLY

Earlier than you think. We’re talking end of summer if you want to bag the best venues, get the best rates and secure the top entertainment.

2.  KNOW YOUR BUDGET

Prices are going to be super-competitive, so now’s not the time to rely on ‘ish’ or ‘thereabouts’ from the finance squad. Get an exact figure as soon as you can, and review the previous year’s plan to spot any sneaky hidden costs.

3. CHOOSE YOUR DATE CAREFULLY

When you’re planning a big corporate event, you’re going to be vying for time - and space - in some seriously busy diaries. Consider the company’s calendar as a whole and identify any peak periods of pressure or when teams might be away. Work with PAs to ensure business leaders can make the date too.

4. SAVE THE DATES & RSVPS

Once you’ve pinned down a date, let employees know as soon as possible. Set a clear RSVP deadline so you know your numbers and don’t waste resources.

5. DON’T MAKE IT ALL ABOUT THE BOOZE

Gone are the days when Christmas do’s were all about open bars and cheesy DJs. Instead of blowing your budget on booze, create an event that everyone can enjoy; incredible food, top class entertainment and a venue that looks great on the ‘Gram.

6. CONSIDER WORKING WITH AN EVENTS PLANNER

Planning a big corporate event isn’t always something you can do alongside your actual job. It takes more time and manpower than people think. Make your life easier - and give yourself a chance to actually enjoy the event - by getting some outside support.
