How to create the perfect LinkedIn profile

There are so many social media channels to keep on top of these days, and it can feel like you need a different face for every one.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instagram? Carefully curated cool. Facebook? Here’s me on holiday with my granny. Twitter? Funny with a side of sardonic sass. It’s hard to keep up, right? But if there’s one social platform that’s worth investing in, it’s got to be LinkedIn.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
No longer just an online CV - LinkedIn is the place to meet people, share skills, talk about your achievements and generally do better business.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s how to make the most out of yours:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Picture perfect
You don’t have to commission Rankin but do spend some time getting a good photo for your profile. You want people to be able to recognise you quickly and not be put off by any gimmicks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Handpick your highlights
This obviously depends on your experience, but if you’ve been in a professional role for 10+ years people probably don’t need to know about the time you worked in Subway during the school holidays.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Play with words
Don’t just list your responsibilities under your roles - have some fun! Was there a particular project you really enjoyed? An achievement you’re super-proud of? Talk about these!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Network - but don’t net ‘em all
Industry contacts? Add and accept! Former colleagues! Go ahead, let’s catch-up! Someone you met travelling who runs a beach bar in Thailand? You might want to reconsider this one. It’s quality not quantity that counts and a profile with 1000+ connections might raise a red flag.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Stay active
It can seem like a chore but checking in just once a day can do wonders for your online profile. Share articles, ask for advice and engage with your network!
