Social Updates: January
Keeping up with all the social updates can become a bit of a chore, we know! But don’t worry - unite Marketing and Events has you covered! Here are all the most recent social media updates you NEED to know 👇
🎞️ Tiktok has rolled out a feature to users in the UK and US that enables users to tag TV shows and movies in their uploads using IMDB. The link will direct users to an in-app page with information provided by IMDB and a collection ofTiktok videos that are related. Users will also have the ability to save a title to their “favourites”.
🔎 Twitter will soon be launching “Advanced Search” to both the iOS and Android app, allowing users to use perimeters like accounts mentioned, data ranges, mentions, hashtags and like and retweet counts to help you search for that one tweet that you saw months ago!
🧵 During a livestream, Musk announced that longform tweets will make way to the app in February - putting an end to long-winded threads!
🛍️ Instagram is making changes to the navigation bar! The shortcut for creating content will now be in the middle rather than at the top, and the reels shortcut will shift to the right - meaning the shopping app will no longer be available as a shortcut (did anyone actually shop on Instagram??)
📸 Instagram has introduced new ways for the user to manage their explore page, making it fully customisable! You can now mark posts with “not interested” so you’ll get shown less posts that are similar. Using the hidden word section on your privacy settings, you can also filter out the types of posts you don’t want to see on your recommended page, like “fitness” or “recipes” for example.
🔐 Meta has expanded their testing of encrypted messages on the Messenger app going against the concerns of the UK Home Affairs Secretary Priti Patel that expanded message encryption could make it harder for police to investigate and prevent child abuse within the app.
